The 32nd Annual Winni Derby

Every April, Lake Winnipesaukee and its surrounding towns shake off winter and enthusiastically greet spring. People are eager to store their skis and ice huts and get their boats back in the water. Spring boating and exploration is one of the greatest pleasures of owning a home in the Lakes Region. Mild weather, calm waters, and open public docking give the spring months a true “locals only” feel.
Restaurants and businesses that close up shop for the winter open their doors in preparation for another beautiful summer and the soundless landscape comes back to life with a flurry of activity from the local wildlife.
May 16th, 17th, and 18th will bring the 32nd Winni Derby, the leading Landlocked Salmon and Lake Trout Derby, to Laconia. Tensions will run high as anglers of all ability levels vie for the handsome cash prizes awarded by the Laconia Rotary Club. The non-profit organization not only supports the local community but is committed to the preservation of the salmon fishery here on Lake Winnipesaukee. Due to the later than average ice out, and therefore colder water, this year the fishing is forecasted to be tremendous.
Spectators can purchase tickets at a number of locations in the Lakes Region. Interested in vying for the grand prize? Fishing licenses are available on the New Hampshire Fish and Game website.
